Soft white snow blankets the Winter ground, bringing calm and silence to our war-torn world. Above, the evergreen fir trees remind us that life still goes on, despite the red blood of battle. And from this chaos arises a Savior who will shed his blood, even as a crown of rose thorns pierces his flesh. And, peace shall he bring as a rainbow.
We raise our voices in joy at the wondrous blessings of this season as revealed in the music of many ages and nations, culminating in Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols”, with harpist Dan Levitan accompanying the chorus and soloists in this marvelous setting of medieval Christmas poetry, instilling in us a hope for a peaceful New Year.
